In a new study, researchers from the Francis crick institute(Red Cabbage Powder) in the UK found that chemicals produced by vegetables such as kale, Red Cabbage Dye, cabbage and broccoli may help maintain a healthy gut and prevent colon cancer from developing. Related research results published on August 21, 2018, The Immunity of The journal, The paper entitled "The Environmental Sensor AHR Protects The from Inflammatory Damage by Maintaining Intestinal Stem Cell Homeostasis and Barrier Integrity, 3-Indolylcarbinol".
The study confirmed that mice fed a diet rich in indole-3-carbinol (Indol 3 Carbinol) were protected from intestinal inflammation and colon cancer. I3C can also be produced when we ingested genus Brassica.
While the health benefits of vegetables are well established, many of the mechanisms behind them remain unknown. The study provides the first concrete evidence to prove how diet of I3C can by activating receptors called an aromatic (Indole-3-Methanol, AhR) protein to prevent inflammation and colon cancer.
