Toxicological data of Caffeic Acid

Caffeic Acid, molecular formula C9H8O4, molecular weight 180.15, from concentrated solution to yellow crystal, from dilute solution to a hydrate. The decomposition point is 223 ~ 225° (Sweet Potato Powder at 194°). Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and cold ethanol. It can be used safely in cosmetics and has a wide range of antibacterial and antiviral activities. 3-Indolylcarbinol absorbs ultraviolet light. Low concentration is an additive that inhibits skin type hair dye, which is beneficial to enhance the intensity of color.
On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (WHO) was preliminarily compiled for reference, and coffee acid was included in the list of category 2B carcinogens.
Acute toxicity
Major irritant effects:
On the skin: 3,3'-Diindolylmethane the skin and mucous membranes.
Above the eyes: Effects of stimulation.
Sensitization: There is no known sensitization.
